Papayas

Our small papayas are grown in Jamaica, and our large papayas are imported from Belize and Guatamala.

Papaya trees grow from a seed to a 20 foot, fruit bearing tree in a short 18 months.
They are cultivated in semitropical zones and can range in size from 1 to 20 pounds.
The Jamaican papaya is smaller than a solo variety but the flavor is sweeter.
The flesh is soft, juicy, and rose colored.
Our papaya is “A Taste of Paradise.”

Selection

Look for fruit that is bruise - free with smooth, unwrinkled skin

A ripe papaya will give slightly to palm pressure

Ripen firm green fruit at room temperature

If selecting for your produce department they should be marketed in different stages of ripeness.
