Limes

Did you know that the lime was responsible for
nicknaming the navy?  The sailors ate vitamin C ric
limes  to prevent scurvy.  Soon after, sailors came to be
known as “ Limey’s.”

Receiving

 

Limes should be smooth and shiny with good green skin color. 

 

They should be heavy for their size. 

 

Limes with a light green skin have a higher juice content. 

 

Avoid limes with yellow skin, this

indicates lack of

acidity.

Handling

 

Temperature for Limes should be at 55 F, 12.8 C.

 

Keep product out of sunlight , which causes limes to

deteriorate .

 

Keep cartons off the floor to prevent dampening; keep in well ventilated areas.

Merchandising

 

Limes can be

positioned with

citrus or next to

avocados & tomatoes, along with guacamole mixes.  Displaying limes with lemons,

avocados, & tomatoes, or green peppers, helps to show them off.

Selling in multiples is the key.
